Who publishes this
We built SBADecoded because SBA publishes loan-level data on every loan it guarantees, and nobody translates it for the people actually borrowing. We are not a lender and we take no referral fees. Every number here comes from the federal record, and the method is published in full.
Who runs this
Gene Deghtyar — founder
Gene is a small business owner himself — which is the whole reason this exists. SBADecoded is the research he wanted when he was the one reading the loan terms, not the one selling them. He does the data work behind every figure here and stands behind what it says, the good numbers and the unflattering ones alike. If a figure is wrong, it is his to correct: write to corrections@sbadecoded.com and you will reach him directly.

What is behind the numbers
as of 2026-06-30Every figure on this site is computed from SBA's own FOIA releases, which are public domain. We publish the method, the sample size and the release date beside each number, so you can check our work rather than take it on trust. Where a rule is involved, we cite it and date it, because the rules change.
How we pay for it
Display advertising, and affiliate links for services a new owner needs — bookkeeping, insurance, payroll, entity formation, and a paid course on buying a business with an SBA loan. Never lenders. No bank pays to appear here, to rank higher, or to be recommended, and we would publish their bad numbers if they did. Our incentive is that you succeed, not that any particular bank does.
